Topsy Turvy Cake = Intimidation

I think the title says it all....HOWEVER, I will not let this deter me from attempting it! Here are two examples of topsy turvy cakes...

Whimsical Topsy Turvy Cake Bridal Shower

I'm hoping that mine turn out as good as these...wishful thinking I'm sure, but we shall see!!!! I've never worked with fondant, so I make no guarantees...I am excited to try it out, and I'm making this statement up front: I WILL NOT GET FRUSTRATED!!!! (yeah, right)

I'm also going to attempt to make cake pops! These were a fun idea I found at this website and they seemed like something fun to try! I will be sure to report if I have success or failure!!!

Don't want to buy it...Make it!!!

So when I went to Hobby Lobby, one of the things I KNEW I wanted for fall was a really pretty fall wreath to hang on our front door to go along with our pumpkins that I would get. Once I got to Hobby Lobby, I perused their choices of wreaths, and all of them were YUCKY! Not to mention that even after the 50% off Fall discount, they were still about $35! More than I wanted to spend, especially if I had to get one that I was not 100% happy with. SO..... I decided to make one myself! I'm sure you're thinking that this sunds like one of those projects that while it sounds great...it will never get done! And trust me I have plenty of those! However, I am quite proud to say that this is not one of those projects! It is now complete and hanging on my front door, and in total it cost me a whole $15 from start to finish, much better than $35!! Here's a step by step of it's progress and simple instructions on what I did:

Silly me, I completely forget to take a before picture of my bare wreath and all it's fixin's, so I pulled this one from the net, this is what I started with, just a plain ol' grapevine wreath. Cost: $3

First a wrapped a strand of leaves around the wreath just once, cutting off the excess to fill in empty spaces in the leaves. I tied it on with green floral wire to secure it the leaves to the wreath.

I now started to add the garnishments to the wreath, one was a very similarly colored sprig of flowers and leaves with berries, that you can see on the left side of wreath, along with the pumpkin. These were also attached with floral wire.

And another pumpkin... Moe Moe was doing her best to help me!
IDK takes after her daddy and she wasn't as interested...
I then added 3 sprays of plastic bead that were on metal wires to the wreath, they are hard to see in this photo because they are the same colors as the leaves. I then used online instructions from this website to make the bow as the finishing touch!
And here it is in all it's glory hanging on our front door!

MMM...smells like pumpkin pie!

Too bad for Kolby it wasn't a real pumpkin pie...but soon enough it will be! With the recent change in weather, I felt the need to go spend some hard earned money on stuff we don't need(something I haven't let myself do in a good while)!! So I took my self down to Hobby Lobby, for some good ol' Fall decorations for the house! It looks so much more home-y!!! I was quite proud of myself and my bargain shopping, Hobby Lobby had all their stuff for Fall 50% off to make room for Christmas stuff already so I went just at the right time! Here are the goodies that I ended up with!
This candle smells awesome! It fills the whole house!

KOL!!!

That's right...because I'm cool enough to use the acronym....Kings of Leon, live in concert October 8, at the American Airlines Center, Dallas, TX!!! My beautiful friend, April, invited me to tag along with her for the evening, so of course I said YES!!! I only knew one song, but I loved their other music!

Unexpected trip to Utopia...

The weekend of October 2-4 I made an unplanned trip to Utopia for an even more unexpected reason. I learned Monday, September 28, that my Uncle Tim Long had been killed in a work related accident at the feed and seed mill that he was working at. He was down in a trench working on construction when the side of the trench gave way trapping him under the rubble. He was my dad's older brother by 18 months at the age of 50, and the father to my cousins Kendall, Stormy, and Ashley. It was a very nice service, and it was good to be home, though not under those circumstances. He was buried in Utopia, in our family's plot.

Oklahoma...where the wind comes sweeping down the plains...

So...since my old computer died, there has been some happenings going on in my life. Sunday, September 27, I headed to Ravia, OK to visit with my grandma and cousins for the day. Kolby had to work (convenient, right???) so I was flying solo. I haven't gotten to see these cousins in about 1 1/2 years, so it was fun to catch up! When we get together it feels like we pick up right where we left off. They grew up with me in Utopia til about the age of 12, then they moved to Arizona. We were so sad to see them move! They now have 5 children between the two of them under the age of 6, so needless to say the day was pure energy!!! It was good practice for me to see how energetic little one's are 24/7, they never slow down! I spent the afternoon, and then headed home since I had to work on Monday. Here are some of the pics from the day:

Me and Danika...this girl, she's so cute! She wanted nothing to do with me at first, but it didn't take her long to warm up!

This is Ashley's oldest, Devon
This is Stormy's new baby, Adrianna, she was only 4 weeks old!
Ashley and her middle child, Isaiha
Aiden, Danika, and Stormy
Ashley, Me, and Stormy
Ashley, Shirley (their mom), and Stormy
Last, but not least, my favorite place!!! Kolby and I both have a strong shared dislike/hatred of Oklahoma, so it's always weird to go across the state line! I'm such a nerd, I had to stop and catch a picture of the Texas line...Nothing like being home!!!!! LOVE IT!!!

And I'm back online!!!

Meet the newest edition to our household! My other lap top which is from high school finally took a turn for the worst and it won't even turn on any more, so I've got to see if we can get my photos off of it or if it's a total loss. Anyways, I finally gave in and we went to get this little baby today after work!

Can't you tell that I'm excited!!! So I've been spending all evening getting it all set up and running, and viola! I believe that I have accomplished just that, I'm so proud of myself!!!! I have to give myself a little pat on my back as I'm typing this post!
